When my wife and I decided to come to Paraguay, we weren't sure what to expect. Little information, a few photos, but nothing could really prepare us for what

we found. Yes, we imagined we would find pristine nature, countless birds and mammals, and probably few tourists: and so it was. But what we found, and what

we enthusiastically told our friends, went far beyond our expectations: the ever-changing landscapes, the liquid immensity of the rivers, the red earth that brought back memories of Australia, long roads that disappear into the horizon, African sunsets... And also men and women, who we like to think of as happy and pure of heart and who always welcomed us with affection and respect, simple and authentic cuisine, made of flavors that we have sadly forgotten, stays at the

estancias that filled our eyes and hearts with wonder, and so many other little things that made us feel at home.

What we couldn't express, however, and which for us turned out to be the meaning of this trip to Paraguay, was the feeling of serenity, well-being, and freedom that accompanied us at every moment. At a time when many countries suffer from overcrowding, overtourism, and endless lines to do anything, being able to explore this beautiful land alone, or almost, was an enormous privilege, for which we are grateful.

A superb birder and a fantastic travel companion, Oscar guided us in an amazing trip in a Paraguayan birdland that so far only existed in our wildest dreams. Look forward to joining him again in exploring further Paraguay and/or other countries!
